The Latest in I/O and Terminal Blocks

Sept. 18, 2009
I/O modules, signal conditioners, high-density thermocouples and more.
32-CHANNEL ANALOG INPUT MODULEAcromag248-295-0880Acromag's ES1253 32-channel analog input model converts 16 DC current and 16 DC voltage single-ended analog inputs from various transducers and instruments for transmission to an Ethernet-based control network. A DB25 serial port provides an alternative voltage input connection from a rack of 7B or 8B signal conditioning modules to monitor a wider variety of sensors including temperature, frequency and load cells. Modbus TCP/IP and UDP/IP protocol communication, as well as peer-to-peer messaging, are supported. Units are available in several configurations starting at $1,550.

ADVANCED ETHERNET I/O MODULESAdvantech Industrial Automation Group800-205-7940Advantech's ADAM-6000 Ethernet I/O Modules now include a new firmware enhancement that adds advanced peer-to-peer and graphic condition logic functionality. The peer-to-peer capability allows ADAM-6000 to actively update input channel status to specific output channels. The Windows-based graphic condition logic utility enables the addition of control logic between input and output with minimal programming. The ADAM-6000 modules provide a variety of input/output options, a simple PC ladder logic, logic cascade and feedback function, online monitoring of running status, the ability to connect to SCADA/HMI software, a built-in web server and an extremely fast response time.

PRESSURE MEASURING TERMINALSBeckhoff952-890-0000The new KM37xx pressure measuring terminals are designed to record differential and absolute pressures and are a flexible, cost-effective alternative to standalone pressure measuring instruments. The one-channel KM3701 measures differences up to an ambient pressure of 7,000 hPa (7 bar) between points. The KM3702 2-channel absolute pressure measuring terminal records pressure values between 0 and 7,000 hPa (7 bar) at each hose connector. The KM3712 two-channel absolute pressure measuring terminal records negative pressure values between -1,000 hPa (-1 bar) and 0 hPa at each hose connector. They can be used in any situation that requires measurement and monitoring of differential and dynamic pressures in non-aggressive gases, including pressure tanks, pressurized cabins, pneumatic and suction systems.
TINY SIGNAL CONDITIONERSDataforth800-444-7644The SensorLex 8B provides performance in a miniature 1.11 in. x 1.65 in. x 0.4 in. (28.1mm x 41.9mm x 10.2mm) module. It's an optimal solution for monitoring real-world process signals and providing high-level signals for data acquisition. Its small size is ideal for embedded or portable applications. The SensorLex 8B features ±0.05% accuracy (typical), ±0.02% linearity, 1,500 Vrms transformer isolation and up to 240 Vrms field-side protection, ANSI/IEEE C37.90.1 transient protection, 5V power (30mA typical), 3- to 5-pole low-pass filtering, low-output noise, -40 °C to +85 °C operating temperature range and CE compliance.

I/O IN A SNAPOpto 22800-321-6786The SNAP-IDC-32N provides 32 optically isolated channels of digital input status, and is used to sense the on/off status of proximity switches, limit switches, pushbuttons and pilot switches. The module is also suitable for detecting auxiliary contacts. The SNAP-IDC-32N's input range is -10 VDC to -32 VDC, and its common connections are positive rather than negative, making it ideal for NPN or sinking type inputs.

SPACE-SAVING TERMINAL BLOCK Phoenix Contact800-322-3225Phoenix Contact's screw-connection terminal blocks are now available with an integrated PE grounding foot. The integrated PE foot is available in 6.2 mm versions of the UT 4 knife disconnect, diode and fuse terminal blocks.  UT 4-PE series saves space while providing a reliable termination for grounding the shields commonly used in shielded twisted-pair wires for analog and digital sensors. These functional blocks also provide options to disconnect (HEDI) or use a universal lever-style fuse holder (HESI) for 5 x 20 plugs with or without light indication.
DISTRIBUTED I/OSchneider Electric847-397-2600Advantys STB is a flexible and robust IP20, bit-modular, distributed I/O platform that provides up to 512 I/O points per island, with up to 32 modules per island on up to seven segments. Benefits to users throughout the lifecycle of the installation include power distribution modules to reducing wiring costs, a flexible range of modules (one to 16 I/O per module) and networks (eight networks) supported and reduced interfacing and configuration costs.

SPACE-SAVING I/O BLOCKSSiemens800-241-4463Siemens Energy & Automation's new ET 200eco PN Ethernet I/O blocks are the latest addition to its Simatic ET-200 distributed I/O product line. The IP67-rated, machine-mount I/O blocks measure only 30 mm in width for eight I/O points, enabling installation closer to controlled devices and directly connected using standard M12 cord-set connectors, saving significant machine wiring and manufacturing cost. They're available in 8-pt and 16-pt digital I/O models, and support industry standard Profinet Ethernet protocol. Also included is a built-in two-port Ethernet switch compatible for multi-drop bus networks or star configuration networks. ET 200eco PN Ethernet I/O blocks support 100Mbit/sec full-duplex transmission speed, and are certified with industry-standard agency approvals, including cUL US, CE, and C-Tick.

I/O FOR RFIDTurck800-544-7769Turck's Simple RFID (RFID-S) slice for its BL20 modular I/O system contains two channels. Additional RFID slices, as well as traditional discrete and analog I/O slices, may be added to the system. These added slices reportedly makes Simple RFID the only product on the market that allows this combination on the same node on the network.  In addition, RFID-S slice is compatible with Turck's IP 20-rated BL20 non-programmable and programmable gateways for use on Profibus-DP, Profinet, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/IP and EtherNet/IP networks.FREE A-B LOGIX UPGRADES
Wago
800-346-7245
Wago Corporation offers free performance upgrades to RS-Logix 5000 Allen-Bradley controllers via Add-On Instructions. The predefined Add-On Instructions incorporate standard analog, digital I/O functions and specialty functions from the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM to ControlLogix, CompactLogix and DriveLogix controllers. Wago's Add-on Instructions bring the modularity and flexibility of the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM to projects requiring compact, granular, DIN-rail mount I/O. Paired with a Wago buscoupler, the Add-on Instructions support DeviceNet and EtherNet I/P while providing additional specialty functions. SEISMIC TERMINAL BLOCKS
Weidmuller
905-475-1507
Several families of Weidmuller DIN-rail mounted terminal blocks mounted terminal blocks, including W (screw clamp), KDKS (screw clamp fuse terminal), P (Push In connection), Z (tension clamp) and AKZ (TS15 screw clamp) series, have been seismic qualified. The terminal blocks can maintain specified performance requirements before, during and following a Design Basis Earthquake (DBE). The test for thermal aging determines if the product can withstand temperatures of 38 °C for a minimum of 40 years. The new approvals apply to Weidmuller DIN-rail mounted terminal blocks that feature housings made from Wemid, which has a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating. This includes Weidmuller's screw clamp, tension clamp and Push-in technology terminal blocks that are DIN-rail mountable on TS 35 rail. In addition, a selected group of TS 15 DIN-rail mount screw clamp terminal blocks have received the new seismic approvals.
