300 mph Charge

Oct. 3, 2003
ABB provides motors, backing for an electric vehicle challenging the world speed record
Drives and two 50-hp motors from ABB form the main drive system in "E-Motion," ABB's challenger for the world electric vehicle land speed record. The current record is 247 mph, so the ABB vehicle will have to clock two runs at better than 252 mph over a distance of 1 km. So far, the vehicle has hit 146 mph during testing, breaking the existing UK electric record. In September, the vehicle was to attempt a record run in Tunisia. ABB claims the car is theoretically capable of reaching 300 mph.
