Apologies about tardiness in posting this, though ironically part of the reason for the delay is that the internet in my hotel in Orlando stopped working after my first night. Rather than report on the forum presentations, which have limited access I will provide instead a short synopsis on the network related announcements made during Press Day at the forum.
The first Group of the day was TIA, the same folks responsible for the RS-485 and other standards who announced with OPC and ILS the release of the TR50 Machine-to-Machine (M2M) protocol standards series,TR-50 TIA 4940.020 “Smart Device Communications; Protocol Aspects; Introduction” and TR-50 TIA 4940.000 “Smart Device Communications; List of Parts.” TIA TR-50 has six Working Groups, including one on testing with representatives from a “Who’s Who” of network providers; Alcatel Lucent, AT&T, CenturyLink, Cisco, Ericsson, ILS Technology, Intel, LG, Nokia Siemens Networks, Numerex, Qualcomm, Sprint, Verizon and Wyless contributing to the four standards in the series that have been released. When complete the full suite of standards will define the requirements for communications pertaining to the access agnostic (e.g. PHY and MAC) monitoring and bi-directional communication of events and information between smart devices and other devices, applications or networks across the M2M environment .

More on this standard in my Wireless Column in Control magazine soon.
Though not in the Press Day proper the following companies Iconics distributed the following 2 Press releases that might be of interest to our readers:
The first is the release of Mobile HMI: http://www.iconics.com/Home/Products/Web-Solutions/MobileHMI.aspx which adds another degree of complexity to the BYOD debate. They have also announced support for Windows8 http://www.iconics.com/Home/Company/News/Press-Releases/2013-Press-Release/ICONICS-V10-8-HMI-SCADA-Suite-Delivers-the-Power-o.aspx#.USUhVVdFqRM which means support for tablets as well as Windows8 enabled mobile devices.
