I got this as a comment on my original post, but I've chosen to promote it here, instead of leaving it as a comment. This is, as you can see, way cool.
Subject: Space Academy for Teachers
I just want to let you know that I am one of the teachers that went to Honeywell's Space Academy for Educators and let me reiterate what a fantastic experience it was. The chance to meet with teachers from all over the world ... how can that ever be replaced. Being from Canada I came back to complete three more days of school before summer break started. Just being able to wear the flight suit that Honeywell paid for was inspiring to my students in itself. That flight suit spoke volumes to the kids and to my colleagues as well. The talk immediately turned to space and stayed on that topic for hours. What fun. I can hardly wait to start school again in September. There is so much that I want to do ... hydroponics in the classroom, rocket after rocket, after rocket, martian math, the glove box ... I could go on and on and it has already been two weeks since I have been there. Space is ALWAYS at the back of my mind and that has been because of Honeywell. If they had not sponsored me there is no way I could have been able to go. And don't forget school boards. My London District Catholic School Board picked up the tab for my teacher coverage because our school year was still in progress during my time at Space Camp.
I am very glad that people acknowledge the humongous contributions of certain corporatations in the educational field. I KNOW that my excitement and involvement will now reach countless people ... the staff I work with, the children I teach, the teachers I encounter, all the people they meet AND of course my own family.
Thanks again to Honeywell ... a leader in corporations.
