Joyce began by showing a slide from the 2001 introduction press conference:
Partnering for Power combines results-oriented methodology, advanced technologies, and expert resource services to change the economics of power generation.
"We provide," she went on,"consultative services to help improve profitability of power generating companies."
With the caveat that they couldn't get deeply into specifics because of confidentiality agreements, Dasch began to talk about some successful cases:
+Improved environmental compliance in the plant
+Decreased plant maintenance costs and increased plant life cycle
+Improved operator skills and automated guidance solutions
+Increased availability in the generator/substation
+Increased revenue through improved operational flexibility and dispatching capabilities
+Improved fleet management through remote performance monitoring and diagnostics.
"The primary phases of Partnering for Power include a gap analysis, with benchmarking against either customer goals, customer competition, or both," Dasch said. "We prepare a roadmap for success, which we use to validate and sustain gains."
We do prioritize," she said, for front end loading return on investment...
The first phase is to analyze and benchmark current performance.
Next, Emerson helps their customers evaluate the options for improvement...
Then, they define and execute performance improvement programs, and finally,
they validate and sustain realized gains.
Today's power company faces many challenges. Emerson's value, she said, is in knowing what can be achieved and how.
The Challenges:
+ Less manpower
+ Power outages
+ More demanding objectives
+ Financial Constraints
+ Shorter ROI window
+ Limited new technology expertise
+ Multiple ongoing planned projects
The Drivers:
Aging workforce
New Emissions Equipment
Outdated Plants
Increased Market competition
Operational Changes
$-driven vs MW-driven
There are lots of solutions:
Neural Networks
I&C Upgrades
Predictive Intelligence
Advanced Control
Operator Intelligence
Simulators
The fact is, she went on, there are too many solutions.
This is why Emerson is doing consultative selling.
