Opswat buys data diode supplier to expand cybersecurity offerings

Jan. 17, 2025
Connectivity options accommodate Ethernet, cellular and serial connections

Opswat, announced Dec. 18 that it’s acquired Fend Inc., which supplies data diode and unidirectional gateway that protect industries where air gaps are needed to prevent cyber-intrusions. Its products perform multi-scanning by up to 30 anti-virus engines, Deep CDR for zero-day threats, sandboxing, and Proactive DLP that prevent data leaks.

Fend’s data diodes creates a secure, one-way communication channel, allowing data to flow from one network to another, while physically blocking reverse transmissions. This hardware-based approach is valued in high-security environments like defense, industrial control systems and critical infrastructures, where preventing external access is paramount. Originally reserved for sensitive applications such as nuclear power plants, data-diodes have become more accessible and affordable, making them practical for industries that require secure online monitoring and predictive analytics.

Fend’s connectivity options, which accommodate Ethernet, cellular and serial connections for older networks, are expected to help Opswat meet the demands of emerging technologies such as 5G and Industry 4.0, as well as legacy infrastructures.
