HIMA Group celebrated Nov. 21 the opening of its first facility in India for process and rail safety. This expansion marks a step in the company’s international growth strategy, and aligns with India's Vision 2047 (Viksit Bharat) initiative for transforming it into a more developed nation by 2047. HIMA will use its 50-plus years of certified safety expertise to provide localized safety solutions that will address India’s growing safety needs.
"We’re excited to support India's transformational journey and contribute to the improvement of its rail and process infrastructure safety," says Steffen Philipp, managing partner and shareholder at HIMA.
HIMA’s new India facility will emphasize the importance of digitalizing functional safety and addressing OT security. It will support industries, such as rail, chemical, petrochemical and oil and gas, ensuring they benefit from the latest safety standards and technologies. The facility is expected to nurture long-term business relationships that will drive mutual growth. HIMA will partner with Indian firms, and contribute to local workforce development and innovation. Its expertise will help train and develop India’s next generation of safety professionals.
“Our expansion into India is a strategic step that will not only allow us to better serve our customers but also contribute to India’s economic and technological growth,” says Jörg de la Motte, CEO of HIMA. “We’re committed to fostering innovation and safety across the country’s industrial landscape.”
HIMA adds it’s committed to supporting India’s Vision 2047 sustainability goals in line with the nation’s regulatory requirements. “We’ll continue to expand our customer partnerships in the process industry and rail sectors, and support new markets such as renewable energy, green LNG and hydrogen with our holistic safety solutions," says Deepak Naik, country manager for HIMA India.
Driven by strong demand from local clients and a commitment to India’s market needs, HIMA reports its work there began two years ago. The new facility marks the first phase of a multi-year expansion plan in which HIMA plans to deepen its ties with Indian businesses and industries. The facility will not only support local execution of safety projects, but will also serve as an export hub, allowing HIMA to deliver safety solutions regionally.
In addition, HIMA India will work with local universities, research institutions, and industry leaders to promote competency development and knowledge transfer. Through these partnerships, the company will contribute to job creation and developing skilled workforces in the safety and automation sectors. For example, one of HIMA’s key partners is the College of Engineering Pune (COEP), which will play a critical role in knowledge transfer and developing safety expertise. This collaboration will help ensure that India’s safety professionals have the skills and knowledge to excel in rapidly evolving technological landscapes.
