Innomotics provides power supply for green hydrogen research at NREL

Feb. 28, 2025
Three PR150 rectifier systems and controls will serve an electrolyzer testing facility

Innomotics reported Jan. 16 that the U.S. Dept. of Energy has ordered three PR150 rectifier power supply systems and controls for the electrolyzer testing facility for green-hydrogen electrolyzers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo.

Innomotics tailored the PR150s for green hydrogen production. They’re suitable for low- and medium-voltage applications, and designed to power hydrogen electrolyzers with a 5 to 16 MW power range.

The three units will be produced in Nuremberg and delivered to the U.S. in a 40-foot, packaged control room. They’ll be joined by the balance of the rectifier control and circuit protection equipment. The complete system will be installed at NREL’s Flatirons campus with a planned startup in 2Q26.

“This project is an opportunity to collaborate with a marquee research and development entity that’s working with industry to accelerate and scale aggressive decarbonization goals for hard-to-abate markets,” says Doug Keith, CEO  of Innomotics Americas. “Applying Innomotics rectifiers in the green-hydrogen sector is an important step forward in developing this market.”
