Life cycle analysis for Quantum and ControlLogix platforms
June 10, 2006
Process control authority Bela Liptak brings in a specialist to answer a reader's question regarding life cycle analysis for the Modicon Quantum and Rockwell ControlLogix platforms.
QUESTION:
I AM trying to do a life cycle analysis for the Modicon Quantum and Rockwell ControlLogix and cannot find the date these two platforms were introduced. Is the Quantum a derivative of the 984? Your help would be appreciated.
THE MODICON Quantum product line was introduced in 1994. Assuming the nature of the question regarding the Quantum being a derivative of the 984 platform, it is not, although the Quantum will run 984LL without conversion. It will not run 984LL and IEC 61131-3 logic concurrently. The Quantum was introduced as a new product built from the ground up incorporating new features such as hot-swap capable I/O. The AB ControlLogix product line was introduced in July 1994 with version 1.81.
