To enable compliance with current, good manufacturing practices (cGMP) in biopharmaceutical processes, Proline Promass U 500 single-use, Coriolis flowmeter provides accuracy, precision, traceable calibration, simple handling and a straightforward user interface for downstream processes, such as monoclonal antibodies, mRNA-based active ingredients and cell and gene therapies.
Proline Promass U 500 consists of a base unit containing components for its power supply, exciter, sensors and other electronics. This unit is available in two versions with the same functions: an installed unit that OEMs can integrate into their platforms, and a second, tabletop unit for flexible, laboratory applications. This tabletop option is available in its housing with corresponding connections to the local working environment. These two versions also have a common disposable component that’s inserted into the base unit. To cover a range of applications, this disposable device is offered in four nominal diameters: DN 4 (⅛ in.), DN 6 (¼ in.), DN 15 (½ in.) and DN 25 (1 in.). It’s also self-drainable, which allows easier handling for disposal
Promass U 500 specifies flow rates of 0.12 to 75 l/min. A unique feature is its ability to cover a wide range of flowrates with one nominal diameter without compromising accuracy of 0.5% of mass flow—a value reportedly never previously reached in single-use applications. Its 316L (AISI) or 1.4435 (EN) stainless-steel measuring tube enables repeatable, accurate and precise results, which are difficult to achieve with plastic tubes. Meanwhile, the polycarbonate used for Promass U 500’s plastic portion, which also contacts process media, is Makrolon RX1805, a medical-grade plastic that’s long been trusted in single-use applications.
The disposable components and materials in Promass U 500 are also certified as complying with relevant international regulations, such as biocompatibility as defined by USP <87> and <88> and ISO 10993. Its disposable components are likewise assembled under clean-room conditions, specifically ISO Class 7, which is used by the production environment of many biotechnological facilities. They’re also delivered in double plastic bags. Before use, the disposable component is readied using gamma irradiation sterilization.
