SX8R compact, direct or DIN-rail mounted, bus coupler bridges a range of I/O modules with industrial network protocols, such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and CC-Link, and supports adaptable automation designs. This lets users easily deploy I/O modules throughout their equipment and systems.
SX8R works natively with Idec’s PLC FC6A I/O modules that are available in more than 40 models, encompassing discrete and analog signal types and counts. Each SX8R supports up to seven I/O modules on the base unit, and up to eight additional modules by using an expansion power supply, for a total of up to 15 I/O modules. One SX8R can support up to 480 discrete points (input and/or output), 120 analog inputs, and/or 60 analog outputs, depending on configuration. The maximum SX8R nodes possible on a network depends on the host unit and protocol. This means 255 nodes for Modbus TCP, 32 nodes for EtherNet/IP when using FC6A Plus PLC, and 16 or eight nodes for CC-Link when using specific Mitsubishi PLC models.
Its seamless integration with existing systems means SX8R works well without replacing other PLC makes and models, if the host device also supports those protocols. SX8R features one Ethernet port for the uplink connection to the host network, and a second local Ethernet port for configuration purposes. It supports multiple protocols simultaneously, and has a -25 °C to 65 °C operating range. Besides consuming minimal installation space, SX8R’s I/O modules and expansion power supply click together to save installation time. Its 24V DC power connector block is detachable, so users can choose push-in or screw terminals.
Free, easy-to-use, PC-based, configurator software lets users adjust settings, manage project files, perform system software updates, and monitor I/O and bus coupler status. User-friendly navigation and drag-and-drop functionality aids configuration, while settings can be copied and reused to reduce development time and effort. Status LEDs on SX8R, and self-diagnostics available with its configurator software let users rapidly detect and correct errors.
