Bus coupler bridges I/O modules with industrial networks

Sept. 4, 2024

SX8R bus coupler lets users deploy I/O modules throughout equipment and systems, so they can design distributed remote I/O systems, or expand I/O counts for controllers with limited base-unit I/O points. It features one Ethernet port for the uplink connection to the host network, and a second local Ethernet port for configuration purposes.

SX8R supports up to seven I/O on the base unit, and up to eight more I/O by using an expansion power supply, or total of up to 15 I/O. So, one bus coupler can support up to 480 discrete points (input and/or output), 120 analog inputs, and/or 60 analog outputs, depending on configuration. SX8R supports 255 Modbus TCP nodes, 32 EtherNet/IP nodes with Idec’s FC6A Plus PLC, and eight or 16 CC-Link IE Field Basic nodes when using specific Mitsubishi PLCs.

Its compactness and direct or DIN-rail mounting ensures that SX8R uses minimal space, while its I/O modules and expansion power supply click together to save installation time. Its 24 VDC power connector block is detachable, so users can choose push-in or screw terminals. SX8R operates at -25 °C to 65 °C, and is backed by a three-year warranty.

Free, easy-to-use, PC-based configurator software for SX8R lets users easily establish operational settings, manage project files, perform system software updates, and monitor I/O and bus coupler status. User-friendly navigation and drag-and-drop functionality aids configuration, so settings can readily be copied and reused to reduce development time and effort. Status LEDs and self-diagnostics available via its configurator software let users rapidly detect and correct errors.
