A pioneering pump manufacturer founded in 1924 in Osaka, Japan, Tsurumi Pump reported on July 24 that it’s proud to celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. The company has focused on technical excellence since its inception as an equipment manufacturer, gaining recognition across Asia and expanding to the U.S. and Europe.

Tsurumi America Inc. was established in 1979, creating a network of dealers, distributors and partners. The company’s commitment to quality drove success in various markets, including construction, mining, flood remediation, food processing, wastewater treatment and water features.

“My favorite part about working at Tsurumi is that we focus so heavily on supplying our customers and our clients solutions to their issues and water problems,” says Glenn Wieczorek, Tsurumi’s managing director. “We sell pumps, but we really sell solutions to challenges.”

More testing and customization

In other news, Tsurumi is expanding its customization services to meet growing demand for water solutions, and adding an in-house testing facility to provide customized solutions to keep clients’ projects on track and meet operational standards.

“Since the pandemic, work has consistently grown,” says Humberto Ponce, product technician at Tsurumi. “We prioritize maintaining stock levels and fulfilling customers’ needs, especially with custom work and specific requests, which are integral to our service offerings.”

For example, custom cable options in various lengths can be fabricated and installed on pumps to avoid issues associated with field splicing. “One of the most common customizations involves connecting cables that can reach to 100 feet or more," adds Ponce. “This is crucial for mining applications, where the power supply is often distant from where the pumps need to operate.”

Besides cable length customization, Tsurumi frequently converts pumps to meet specific customer requirements. Ponce explained that distributors and clients often request custom modifications to their pumps. Following a thorough evaluation by the engineering team to determine feasibility, Tsurumi proceeds with the conversion, ensuring the final product meets quality standards.
