Weidmuller will also expand its products to include connectors with the new SPE face

Weidmuller reported Dec. 4 that Profibus and Profinet International (PI) has implemented a uniform connector face for single-pair Ethernet (SPE) based on key application requirements, and submitted it for international standardization. This new SPE connector system offers a standardized mating face for applications in control cabinets, in the field and installations.

Many suppliers have already announced they’ll implement it soon. Weidmuller adds it will also expand its products to include connectors with the new SPE face. Many functions of this new connector generation are already integrated into Weidmuller’s connectors.

“As a pioneer in connection technology, Weidmuller is also an SPE forerunner. With its end-to-end communication from sensors to the cloud, it offers added value. This makes it all the more important that the industry has agreed on a uniform connector face,” explains Simon Seereiner, business development manager at Weidmüller. “The international standardization initiated by ISO/IEC and the acceptance of this interface by Profinet will create clarity, security and unambiguity for manufacturers and users, and accelerate the breakthrough of this technology.”
